With NFL training camps opening across the country, it seemed a perfect time to check the Twitter, Instagram and Facebook followings of the league’s 32 franchises. We will update these following Super Bowl LII next February to check trends. As it stands now, these numbers stand out:

-The Dallas Cowboys and New England Patriots ranked first or second on each of the three aforementioned social media sites.

-The Pittsburgh Steelers were the only other club to rank in the top 5 on all three platforms.

-The San Francisco 49ers, Denver Broncos, Green Bay Packers and Seattle Seahawks were the only other teams to rank in the top 10 on all three outlets.

-The Jacksonville Jaguars were the only organization to rank last on multiple hubs (Twitter and Facebook).

-The Los Angeles Rams were easily the largest market to rank in the bottom 10 (No. 31, 31 and 27) on all three platforms.

-In the battle for New York, the Giants go three-for-three against the Jets.-

-The Jacksonville Jaguars and Tennessee Titans are the only franchises to rank in the bottom three for all three outlets.-

-The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are the only other organization to rank in the bottom five for all three platforms.

With that, here are the complete results — ranked for each site — of all 32 NFL teams:

We learned yet another young woman’s love and upbringing in sports and how that tailored a love for journalism, asking questions and talking Sports!!! Jessika also now hosts her own show on YouTube called #JessikaWardTV. The GCS Ladies and Jessika discuss the greatest comeback in Super Bowl history, as well as some of the other records that were broken and/or tied during the game. What happened to the Falcons the 2nd half? Is Kyle Shanahan the blame? Who took Tom Brady’s jersey and will anyone give James White the winning game ball he left behind? The difference between Larry Fitzgerald and Michael Floyd, and Melissa finally links Howie Long and Chris Long (DUH!!! smdh) and enjoys the time that Martellus and Michael Bennett were able to share post game interview. Now what about those commercials!!! SB 2017 came with some great commercials, and MANY with great meaning behind them (slight punch at the orange guy lol). What about the halftime show? Our thoughts on GAGA’s performance take? But lets really talk about what everyone wants to know, no not #ArmsoftheNFL *which we cover* BUT are the Simpsons really predicting major life events? Seahawks/Broncos SB, Twin Towers, Trump and now the Falcons/Patriots SB? We continue to monitor that one. And of course the latest top 5 of Women’s and Men’s NCAA hoops and a heart felt Ahhhhhhh moment. Go down to the link below and check out the show!

Dallas Should Be Super Bowl Champions

2015 Pro Bowler Tony Romo

That title seems like a stretch, doesn’t it?

Well it shouldn’t be…at all.

As much as I dislike that team and their fans, “America’s Team” (as it was proclaimed long ago) is back in the saddle to make that championship run to sit on the NFL’s top mountain.

This team has the makings of a championship-caliber football team.

You heard that correctly. Me, the one that dislikes the Cowboys, believes this team can win it all.

It has a good (although sometimes good has been a stretch for him), a running back (who led the league in rushing and touchdowns), and a wide receiver (who is probably the best receiver in the NFL). In addition…an All-Pro tight end and by far one of the best offensive lines in not just the conference, but the entire league. Not to mention, a defense who ranked in the Top 15 in defense this season and won every road game they played in (4-4 home record during regular season) seems like a clear indicator that this team is headed back towards their “destiny for greatness.” I DON’T LIKE IT! But I have to deal with it. It’s just sports.

demarcomurraystlouisramsvdallascowboysme1zc0ru15ql

NFL rushing leader DeMarco Murray

Speaking of it’s just sports, this post wouldn’t have been done if it wasn’t for the “controversial” 24-20 win against the Detroit Lions in the NFC Wild Card game on Sunday. Lots of factors played into the game especially the poor decision making of one Jim Caldwell, who is about every bit as bad with that as Marvin Lewis is with the Bengals. Let’s not forget how Jerry Jones used his wallet to overcome that bad pass interference call. BUT when the game was on the line, Caldwell choked and his quarterback choked. That’s what makes me dislike Matthew Stafford. In games I needed him for fantasy, he choked.

Sorry, getting beside myself because the topic is about Dallas…so let me stick to the topic at hand, ok?

Dallas has a good road ahead of them, yet probably their biggest challenge will come from the NFC North champs, the Green Bay Packers. I don’t like them either. Thanks two of my family members who constantly think they are the absolute best. But hey, as a fan you’re supposed to think that way. But the Cowboys have their undefeated regular season mark to take with them on to Lambeau. If they get past Green Bay, they are going to the Super Bowl. WELL HOW IS THAT, TRAIN? THEY HAVE ANOTHER GAME LEFT AFTERWARDS. Truth. But let me help you understand because (whispers) it’s all a setup.

dal_a_dez1_cr_400x600

“The best receiver in the NFL,” Dez Bryant

The Carolina/Seattle game will more than likely goes Seattle’s way (on paper). I understand the term “Any Given Sunday” real well yet more than likely they will be outmatched. Now if Carolina steps up from their 27-16 win against Arizona, they could put the Seahawks on the ropes. But I just don’t see that happening in this matchup. Back to why Dallas will go to the Super Bowl is this…Seattle will likely be the winner between them and Carolina which sets up a rematch back with Dallas back in Week 6, which the Cowboys won by a touchdown IN Seattle. Dallas won’t be afraid of Seattle because they believe they can be them in their own house. HOWEVER, this will be the 2nd time in Romo’s career that he will face Seattle at Qwest Field. The last time he played them (which was back in 2006), led to this, and the final was this. But THAT was a different Romo then compared to now…at least some people think that…but however, this team should not be able to disappoint. This NFL fan hopes they choke again.

But yet this 2014 edition of the Cowboys team is eerily similar to the Dallas team back in 1992. You can click this link and see what I mean.

If they get the win in Lambeau, get the people ready for a party in Glendale at Super Bowl XLIX (49) and a date with the New England Patriots and beating down Tom Brady.

Lord, I hope that doesn’t happen, but if it does, I’m going to a Super Bowl party…for just the food/drink.

THE ASSOCIATION REPORT: Second Edition

Posted in Basketball with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on February 5, 2014 by A-Train

nba-logo

In the second edition of “The Association,” the primary focus is on the professional level…the NBA.

Here we are in the month of February and the Oklahoma City Thunder is playing like they want to be in the NBA championship once again, even without their floor leader Russell Westbrook. Reggie Jackson is definitely picking up the slack at the 1 position, Serge Ibaka playing magnificent ball at the 4 position and DEFINITELY should have been an All-Star this year (we’ll talk about that later) while Jeremy Lamb, 3-point veteran Derek Fisher and defensive specialist Thabo Sefalosha providing great contributions from the bench. This team has been on a roll have blown out opponents in the month of January…including their 17-point win against the Miami Heat. The person behind those epic wins is their MVP for not only the team, but the league as well…Kevin Durant.

Durant is without a doubt playing the best basketball of his career. It was ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith that said about Durant that he can play “any of the 4 positions.” He can. He really can. He’s a great ball-handler, he can handle the wing positions and he can post up on just about anyone. He definitely a player that is hard to guard…just ask LeBron James. In their matchup on January 29th, LeBron may have won the point battle, 34-33, but it was Durant who had the last laughs. On three different occasions, Durant buried 3-point shots in the face of James. Both guys are definitely valuable to their respective teams, but you almost can’t go against either of them. LeBron is actually having a down year…at least if you are talking about his scoring average (which is at 26 points a game), but the other numbers have remained consistent. But the guy everyone is talking about in circles…is Durant. He clearly has made it known to fans and haters that he’s tired of being second best. So far, he’s the best player. I can hear the LeBron fans immortalizing the great Ric Flair’s line, “To be the best, you got to BEAT the best.” Still, Durant is the best player.

One team you should definitely watch for is the Golden State Warriors. This team is young, energetic, highly-entertaining and VERY exciting. I haven’t seen them look this good since the days of Run TMC (TIM Hardaway, MITCH Richmond, and CHRIS Mullin). If you are looking for a “one season to the playoff” team, this is not the team for you. Mark Jackson’s boys will be in the playoffs for a while. Stephon Curry playing all-star ball as usual. He needs to make sure to let his game do the talking and not his mouth. Klay Thompson is a dead-eye shooter and can give opposing guards fits. Andrew Bogut and David Lee are very solid in the post…but health will be the issue for these two. The addition of Andre Iguodala was genius by Golden State. He doesn’t have to be THE guy for this team, all he has to do is play his role where he’s needed. I can’t forget about young guys Harrison Barnes, Draymond Green and the recent acquisition Jordan Crawford (from Boston), they bring punch off the bench. The Warriors are as young as the recent Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks. It may look a little far-fetched that they would be in the NBA Finals this season but they have the right pieces to make themselves a championship contender.

While the New York Knicks have been the NBA’s biggest primetime drama (yeah they moved out the Lakers), the important piece of the Knicks, Carmelo Anthony has suddenly become an ultimate prize for other suitors. As the rumors continue to fly out about where ‘Melo could be going…whether it’s Los Angeles, Chicago or even staying in NYC…the question is: Is he worth it? It will depend on what squad decides to put him on their roster. If it’s the Lakers…you’re asking for trouble. As much as Laker fans want him there, he’s not the answer to their equation. Maybe a Kevin Love added to the mix could make it a championship contender but I just don’t see it. Yes, the Miami Heat and Boston Celtics pulled off doing Big 3’s to help them win championships, but those teams were very different compared to what other NBA squads are trying to combine and make their own.  If he goes to the Clippers, it’s going to have to be in exchange for star Blake Griffin. Griffin could work well in NYC, he does like to run and the Knicks are a running team. The longshot is Chicago…yeah they don’t have Derrick Rose but they could use a scorer, the bad part is they won’t have a good defender unless head coach Tom Thibodeau can help him a great deal. Who wants an effective scorer but poor defender for their playoff-bound/championship contending team? I would choose Chicago. That’s not because I’m a Bulls fan either.

(I’m going to try to be nice with this one) The beginning of the month saw a 30-year tenure for David Stern come to an end. Stern took the NBA to an international phenomenon, taking the game all over the world, and even returning with some of the Non-American’s best players. Stern made the NBA very marketable…turning people like Michael Jordan, Charles Barkley, Kobe Bryant and LeBron James into household names. He even was the brainchild with the WNBA and did his best to bring substance to his league. Adam Silver takes over the commissioner’s position and hopefully will bring a lot more positivity to the league.

Time for another edition of The A-Train Rant…12.0!

  1. USC hiring Steve Sarkisian was straight disrespectful to Ed Orgeron…DISRESPECTFUL!
  2. Iron Bowl 2013 had the greatest ending in a college football game. Shoutout to Auburn for that epic win.
  3. Mizzou beating Texas A&M on Saturday night showcases that college football is better than the NFL.
  4. Kellen Clemens really freaking sucks. So does the Rams receivers.
  5. The college game is way better than the pro game…that goes for football AND basketball.
  6. Royce White is a jackass…check out the story here: http://blacksportsonline.com/home/2013/12/royce-white-says-hes-willing-to-fly-now-to-get-back-into-nba/
  7. Ohio State should NOT be in the national championship…prove that you can have another perfect season…next year and then put you in. Not this year. Sorry, Buckeye Nation. Neither should Michigan State. Get mad all you want.
  8. If college football will continue to allow teams with tough schedules to get high in the BCS…then Auburn or Mizzou should be in the national championship. Remember Mizzou wasn’t supposed to be this good anyway.
  9. It’s time for these big schools to play the small schools…WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU SCARED FOR? If your program can’t be a smaller program, you shouldn’t be with the big boys. PERIOD.
  10. AGAIN…Jameis Winston should be the Heisman Trophy winner.
  11. I used to dislike Richard Sherman, I have the greatest respect for him…he goes out, talks trash and backs it up. I think I want to move to Seattle.
  12. With that said, the Seattle Seahawks are probably the BEST team in the NFL. Not Denver, not KC, not New Orleans.
  13. It’s like Jeff Fisher and Brian Schottenheimer just continue to make terrible play calls for the Rams. I don’t get it.
  14. Duke and Kansas don’t look like the stronger teams that people are used to seeing. My Tar Heels don’t look it either, yet I hope they surpass the both of them.
  15. Nate Robinson says that referees hate him…ummm Nate, you give people a reason for them to hate you. The antics he does give folk the side eye. I loved him in Chicago. I wish Gar Forman re-signed him. That energy he brings to the game is great, just those antics need to be calmed.

I’m done. More to come though.

THIS A-TRAIN RANT IS SPONSORED BY…

THE ANGRY REDBIRD!

  1. Peyton Manning is the best QB of all-time…the hell with Brett Favre. After a comeback like that with a not so great team. He can damn near do anything.
  2. Matt Holliday, Jon Jay and Yadier Molina need to learn how to hit in the playoffs. A few instructional videos with Fred McGriff shouldn’t hurt. Don’t act like you don’t remember those.
  3. Jeff Fisher did a good thing on Sunday with Greg The Leg, trying for him to kick a (would have been record) 66-yard field goal. If he knows he can kick, what the hell else do you supposed to do on 4th down.
  4. Speaking of that Rams game, Sam Bradford needs to learn the 2-minute drill, and when to throw the football IMMEDIATELY. It costs the Rams a much needed road win.
  5. The Rams should be at least 5-1. YEAH, I SAID IT. Detroit and Miami should have been road wins. Unclear about that Chicago game but at least they should have been in the lead for those games. Tough breaks in those losses.
  6. Who in the hell is this Richard Sherman guy from Seattle? For a guy who hasn’t seen a postseason yet, he sure thinks he  has the right to go tell off to a Super Bowl-winning QB that he is better than him. Get a championship first, then talk trash. Learn something from Gary Payton, even if it means going to another team to get it.
  7. Speaking of RGIII…I think he is finally learning what the NFL is like. After a mild concussion last week…Dude, they are just getting started with you.
  8. Speaking of Washington D.C., the Washington Nationals front office do not want to win any championships. If that’s the case, they should all be fired. NEXT SEASON!!
  9. The San Francisco Giants are no punks, they got to the NLCS for a reason. This is about to be (hopefully) a great NLCS, funny though how 2 things surface from this matchup. 1) 25 years ago, these two teams played to a thrilling 7-game series with the Cardinals, with the Cardinals winning that before losing to the Minnesota Twins in the Fall Classic. 2) These 2 teams are the last 2 champions, interesting to see who gets there again.
  10. NBA season is around the corner, NHL season is down in the dumps. Last year, it was the other way around.
  11. I don’t feel sorry for the New York Yankees. I’m a long-time hater and I don’t care. Feel sorry for Derek Jeter though. Looks like (as a friend put it) BALCO East needs to break out the juice for another comeback.
  12. The New York Giants are the best team in the NFC, until someone knocks them off, no one else is better. PERIOD. Just ask the San Francisco 49ers.
  13. Back to the Rams…they scored more points the 49ers did. Take that San Fran!
  14. Philip Rivers and Tony Romo are the same people…Yet, I think both are trying to fire their offensive head coaches. Shame on you!
  15. I’ll miss Ray Lewis…that man is cursed. He got in that Madden game again and now he won’t even play the rest of the season. I hope it’s not the last one. If so, this is a bad way to go out. Very bad way.
  16. I got at least 1 win in fantasy football this week, and that I didn’t have a full team with that.

Coming up, a Q/A interview with author Allen Schatz and hopefully get one of the ladies from the Lingerie Football League’s St. Louis Saints.

Stay tuned.

THE A-TRAIN RANT 6.0!

Posted in Baseball, Football, Hockey, NFL, Sports with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on October 7, 2012 by A-Train

What’s good! After a wild weekend of fun, excitement and atrociousness. I want to start this “END OF THE WEEKEND” rant with a little fun and excitement, yet reality. Then I’ll give a piece of my mind to a certain Cardinals player.

BOOM!

  1. The St. Louis Rams have a great defense, I applaud Jeff Fisher for his defensive scheme, 9 sacks said a lot against Arizona QB Kevin Kolb on Thursday night. Hope Mr. Kolb found his teeth after that game.
  2. Now while the Rams have shown promise to getting over .500 for the first time since ’06, they still haven’t won a road game yet. Convince me, then I’ll yell, “We going to the Super Bowl this season!” I should make a bet.
  3. To the Atlanta Braves fans (at Turner Field)…if you want to throw things on the field, throw them at your own damn team! Their defense was THE reason they lost that “one-game playoff.” Either way it went, that “infield-fly” rule wasn’t going to save the season.
  4. Speaking of the Braves, Chipper Jones played his final game as a MLB player. Funny thing was he knew the Braves were going to lose to that game…WEEKS BEFORE the playoff game. Damn fine way to go out on the bottom!
  5. This year’s baseball playoffs are PURE CRAPOLA! And I stand on that. Even if the Cardinals win it all again, this format to the playoffs is a piece of sh**.
  6. Bud Selig loves to ruin the game of baseball. That’s all from that.
  7. Cam Newton is starting to understand what a sophomore slump really is…at least I think so. Losing to the Seahawks shows you that..(CLEARS THROAT) THE NFC WEST IS THE BEST! Everybody else, just get over it.
  8. Looks like my prediction about Alabama beating the tar off Mizzou by at least 35 is really coming into play. I might watch just to see what happens. Mr. Pinkel, you have one more year left. **WAVES**
  9. Hey Green Bay Packer fans…the Rams are better than your team.
  10. RGIII…how does it feel to be knocked on your ass at home. I told you that you were going to get it. Welcome to the NFL.
  11. Long live Chuck Pagano!!!
  12. 3 teams in the SEC are in the Top 5…waiting on the hatred once again from fans outside of the S.E.C.
  13. If Miguel Cabrera doesn’t win the AL MVP in a landslide, all the voters should give up their voting rights…to the fans.
  14. After all of this, I have to talk about the St. Louis Cardinals. **Sighs** First off, congrats for getting to the Division Series.
  15. Finally…MATT HOLLIDAY SUCKS, HE’S NOT CLUTCH AND HE NEVER WILL BE! Cardinals paid this ridiculous idiot of a player over $126 million, and got completely suckered by Scott Boras. Yeah, he hit a home run in the Wild Card game…the Wild Card game. Yet, when the chips are down, he plays just like he has played previously…horrible. Oh, everybody else played like crap from the 7th inning on in this series against the Nationals but I want to focus on the $126 million DOUCHE. For those that don’t remember, this is the same guy who couldn’t play a Game 7 in last year’s World Series, because he was “hurt.” Now for a guy that is 6’4″, 230 lbs, and has received hitting advice from (get this) Mark McGwire. He should be the best damn player on this team, he should be driving in runs like Miguel Cabrera did. He mustered 102 runs batted in this season, which is great, but you and I know he’s much better than this. So you telling me, the fans can’t get the guy who batted .340, hit 36 home runs, and drove in 137 runs back in 2007??? The fans can’t get it. Yet, some imbeciles want to say he’s clutch. You wouldn’t know that truth if it slapped you in the face. Now let’s go back to all of those fans that said, “Oh, we don’t need Albert Pujols anymore.” AND “Let him rot in Anaheim.” AND my personal favorite, “F*** Pujols.” They could sure use that in the lineup right now especially after the man who has taken his spot in the lineup is supposed to be…that guy. What a joke. Yet, I’m cheering for him. Thanks for suckering me, Matt. You are doing a tremendous job.
  16. When is hockey coming on again?

I’m done. More to come soon.

Thoughts? Concerns? Ideas are welcome. Please reply below.

Thanks.
